Music has coursed through his veins for almost a decade. Jacob's interest in music began with an intense love for the guitar in 1992, and has only intensified since. During these years vast musical influences were his inspiration. Jimmy Page, David Gilmore, Carlos Santana, Eric Clapton, and Jimi Hendrix, amongst other masters became the teachers and the inspiration for what musically lay ahead.

In 1996 exposure to Terry Mullan, Live in Toronto was the house music to spark the flame for his future. Terry Mullan's live set hooked Jacob to funky house music, and opened the electronic doors for DJ Gruv. Exposure to the musical scene from which this music spawns was the initial inspiration for DJ Gruv. The way that the sounds of the music has the power to move so many, and allowed a collective appreciation for music between so many people at once was his original inspiration. It was the hedonism of the crowd, the exuberance, and excitement that this DJ based his musical philosophy on. The energy that he drew from the crowd created his hard, funky crowd-pleasing style that his friends and colleagues so love and respect him for. "My style never changes, it only increases. I keep my mind open, and take into consideration the bad, the good, everything." With a philosophy like this, we can count on DJ Gruv being one who brings us musically farther then we have ever imagined. "The possibilities are endless." Gruv notes.

His personal experience in turntablism began at local house parties, and has escalated to a residency at HEAT, one of Pontiac’s hottest spots on Saturday nights. DJ Gruv has played, and gained respect from cities all across Michigan, and will always give a shout out to Detroit.

DJ Gruv's goal in production is to be a serious composer. Just mixing records is on the surface, and can be left to the amateurs. Gruv's interests lie in the fusion of mixing, scratching, juggling, buildups, breakdowns, and solid beats. These elements will allow him to express his creative drive to compose funky classic musical tracks.

Currently DJ Gruv is taking on production through sampling, sequencing, looping, and automating. The composition of his melodies are sure to please crowds and fellow DJ's alike. He believes it is most important to put music first, before money, or publicity, or competition. With a solid base of musical ability, the possibilities really are endless.
